The Warehouse Fire
Yeah I would have liked to write outside today but the smoke from the Boyle Heights warehouse fire is blowing over my house. You can really smell it, and you know it contains heavy metals. Lead cadmium arsenic. The fire’s in a food warehouse, and it smells like burning plastic. It would be cooler if it smelled like delicious food. If it were burning sides of grass fed beef and a big tank of barbecue sauce. But it’s burning the plastic wrap around those things and the permanent IQ reducing birth defect causing materials in the solar panels. Well placed in a densely populated area. They cannot put out the fire. I asked Grok- so LAFD can’t put out a fire isolated to a single building in 3 days? No, they cannot. Because there’s still ammonia pumping out of pipes, they can’t get inside because the roof is collapsing, and the solar panels keep generating electricity so if you turn a hose on them it’s like flying a kite by the power line.
Well there you have it. Could you put your lead containing solar panel warehouses, your giant industrial freezers with ammonia hoses, maybe put them by the port. Maybe put them out in the desert next to a railroad. No they cannot. We must place them in downtown Los Angeles. I need my chlorine bleach facility next to my ammonia pumping facility and I need it to be in the middle of Manhattan. Fair enough. I need my hyena farm next to the largest elementary school available, and no I cannot adequately feed the hyenas, nor can I install a fence strong enough to withstand any hyena’s attempt to escape. I must keep them starving, and when I do feed them it will be with meat I shape and dress up as schoolchildren. You understand.
It was a nice facility. When I heard about the fire I was sad about the warehouse. 491,000 square feet of refrigerated storage, this is hard to come by- extensive docking, I have to assume rail spur. I used to make cold calls for an industrial real estate company out in the Inland Empire and my would be clients would have been delighted to learn about this warehouse and its blast freezing capacity. A modern masterpiece of mass storage for foodstuffs lovingly orchestrated for efficient drayage. And again: huge. This warehouse fire will affect your life. Some food you like that’s imported from Asia came through there. No more Trader Joe’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings, they’re commingling with burning chrome, wafting up and up in fumes displeasing to the Lord.

Brilliant hyena farm siting analogy. Reminds me of the homeless/addict catastrophe in LA - incarcerating them would solve the problem for all involved, but no, we simply cannot do that. Because reasons.
really cool fire
