Failure is Freedom

Failure is freedom. Being the most relevant literary writer is like being the most relevant Dixieland trombonist. No one gives a shit, not now and they never will again. This is bad because it means you have to get a job. Or marry a rich person. Or go back in time and come out of a rich person’s pussy. But it’s good because you can do exactly what you want. You will fail. To compromise in order to succeed, and then fail, which you will, is a fate worse than death. But to say exactly what you want, in the exact way you feel is best, and then fail, is victory.
